Digital Surrealsim

I sort of have an intended message. Originally I was going to do something on worker ants, with a classist message behind it. I also ended up doing something akin to this, as a side idea but was told it’s better than my original. These ideas were adapted from my dreams, appropriate as that’s a central concept of surrealism. I suppose you could say that despite animals writhe in their filth and leave things to primal instincts, they still weren’t the species that created the hydrogen bomb. One could say that the real animals are humans, at the risk of sounding trite.

My original sketch included a man in a suit, but with the head of a dog. I ended up wanting an elk head then fox, owl and finally settled on dog. I had Euan be the model, as he has a slender frame and was dressing in a semi formal manner. Masking the image was pretty difficult, as every good posed picture was lit in a way, which wouldn’t work. I eventually found a decent photo, adjusted the brightness right to a manner of satisfaction.  I then added a lighting effect to the paper cigarette and here I am.

I guess I just further learned the ropes of Photoshop. It’s pretty ridiculous how deep it can get, and how unfriendly it is to newcomers. That’s all really, just gained a bit of Photoshop skill, learned a few binds. I know it’s pretty bleak, but there’s not much else to say.

Also, here is the "dogo" picture I used. As far as I can tell, it's fine for non-profit use.
